Onsite Programs - Project Leadership
and Project Management
Exercising Influence in Project Management
Project management requires a complex and
interactive set of skills in planning, leading and delivering
results. Project leaders and key contributors need to be able to
influence others to contribute and/or to buy in to their vision
of project success, results and scope.
They need to negotiate
for the right resources, including people, money and other
tangible resources as well as less tangible ones like priority
and support. Later they will negotiate schedules, milestones and
responsibilities within and outside of the project team. They
need to learn how to build and maintain a project team that is
self-motivated, interdependent and aligned toward results.
The project leader is a classic example of
the individual who leads through influence rather than direct
power. A solid set of behavioral influence skills as well as the
ability to apply those skills to the processes of negotiation
and coaching are needed for success in project leadership.
In this project management influence workshop participants learn an
influence model and practice applying it to real-world project
situations. Building on their current influence behaviors, they
identify areas for development and plan for formal and informal
influence situations using both a strategic and tactical
approach. The course includes a pre-session survey.
