Communicating Clearly and Assertively Training
Knowing when and how to speak directly is a valuable skill in U.S. corporate culture. In this workshop, participants explore the role of directness in communication and practice speaking directly.
- Use the "Rule of 3" to craft clear explanations
- Connect ideas more precisely and comprehensibly
- Practice getting to the point more quickly
- Identify and practice assertive and responsive patterns of speech
- Develop strategies for responding to aggressive/rude/manipulative behavior
- Communicate assertively and responsively
- Speak about difficult issues with increased confidence and skill
Discussion, role plays and impromptu speaking exercises, group and pair activities. Enrollment is limited to 6 - 12 people per class.

- When, how and why to be direct
- Examples of direct and indirect communication
- The role of national and corporate cultures
Organization
- Learn the Rule of Three to increase the impact of your ideas
- Use language labels and connectors to increase the clarity of your communication
Assertive and Responsive Communication
- Assess your own style
- Distinguish assertive, aggressive, responsive and passive communication styles
- Use assertive and responsive techniques for effective interaction
- Say "no" directly and politely
